Case Study One
Overview
This organisation wanted an operational audit undertaken to ensure the facility being constructed met statutory, operational and HSEQ requirements.
Work Undertaken
I undertook a compliance and HSEQ audit for the construction of a 2000 man camp at a mine site in Western Australia which involved auditing all aspects of the asset operational requirements as they related to catering services from a HSEQ and statutory perspective.
Outcome
I prepared a report outlining deficiencies in the operation and making recommendations to rectify the issues identified. This was adopted by the construction contractor.
Case Study Two
Overview
An organisation wanted to implement a HSEQ management system across all its offices to achieve ISO accreditation, make it more efficient and effective in delivering a client contract and improve its bottom line.
Work Undertaken
Work commenced by analysing each clause of the ISO standards in the context of what the company already had in place, what more it needed to do and matters it needed to consider in the formulation of policies, procedures and plans.
A report was prepared which outlined timeframes for implementation, what needed to occur and how much it was likely to cost.
Once approval was given various policies and procedures, templates and forms were developed (in consultation with operational staff and senior management). I then managed the implementation of this new system throughout the organisation.
An internal audit process was established and I undertook monthly audits and regular site inspections to undertake site based audits. Reports were prepared outlining Areas of Concern that needed to be corrected and Opportunities for Improvement. This report was presented to the Board following each audit.
Outcome
The organisation achieved its ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 within nine months of project commencement and successfully completed a stage 1 AS4801 compliance audit.
Case Study Three
Overview
An organisation had an audit undertaken of its project management and a number of adverse findings were reported. These centred on poor recordkeeping, lack of effective pre-project planning, no supporting evidence to support the viability of the project and no management approach.
Work Undertaken
Worked commenced by analysing the audit report to ascertain the issues of concern and then a review of the existing documentation and records used for those projects. Using Prince2 as the basis of the project methodology this was tailored to reflect the needs of the organisation and the objectives of the project approach. Templates were developed for a Project Brief, Business Plan, Project Initiation Document, GANTT Charts, End of Project reports and a procedure manual to assist staff to understand the process and use the templates. Improved recordkeeping was introduced together with the establishment of a dedicated project office.
Outcome
The organisation had in place a project management methodology that addressed the shortcomings identified in the audit report but also assisted it to achieve its project objectives having due regard to its governance, commercial and risk management requirements.
